Kelso Consulting has been appointed by Ozlop as the innovative start-up prepares, after initial early successes, to scale-up its distinctive outsourced bookkeeping service.
David Vine, Ozlop’s managing director, says: “While it is still early stages for us, it is important that Ozlop is laying strong foundations for growth in 2020 and 2021. Part of this will be ensuring we have a strong reputation based not just on our service but also more broadly on our expertise in helping small businesses, particularly microbusinesses with a busy owner.
“There are more than 1.1m microbusinesses in the UK and, at many of them, the owner is so flat-out with dealing with customers and constant trouble-shooting they let the admin build up. But if they do it for too long, they suffer from late-payers, cashflow problems and ultimately unexpected tax demands. These are the things that often kill microbusinesses, even profitable ones.
“That is where we step in. We provide them with the technology online and as an app to allow them to simply scan, photograph or email invoices and other supporting information to us, and we sort out the rest efficiently and cost effectively.
“I helped pioneer this approach 20 years ago with employee expenses which at that point, even in the biggest firms, were done on paper and were generally both a huge bugbear to employees and a compliance problem. Today this area is transformed thanks to my previous business GlobalExpense leading the way.
“We will do the same with bookkeeping which, today, is also largely an inefficient cottage industry. While there is lots of bookkeeping software now available, and some of it pretty good, there is still a big human element that either owners, bookkeepers or office managers undertake. When small business owners hear about how they can pass that to us, many are delighted and often hugely relieved too.
“For our future growth plans, creating a strong reputation as small business experts is important. To start building strong foundations we are working with the team at Kelso Consulting which is drafting initial blogs for our websites and helping with promoting them on social media. They are important for building our credibility with visitors, my network of contacts and prospects, and with helping us appear more prominently on Google.
"It also means that as we scale up and start looking to gain press coverage and thought leadership activity, we already have a track record of providing advice and insights online.”
How PR agency Kelso Consulting is helping:
Tim Prizeman of Kelso Consulting said: “We previously supported David at GlobalExpense for many years, including winning two national awards for its PR campaigns, so we are delighted to also help with this similarly disruptive venture.
“Many businesses engage blog writers who end up producing me-too articles frequently based on cut & pasting other peoples’ content! By contrast, our blog-writing service marries client insights with high journalistic values and a painless process to ensure a regular flow of interesting website blogs, which we also ensure are widely promoted on LinkedIn and Twitter too to maximise their reach, and also search engine optimise to help boost relevant website traffic too.”
