Image is everything for management consultants on LinkedIn

By Mai Rinaldi, Manager - Kelso Consulting (Public Relations agency)

If you have ever been on Twitter you will have spotted those anonymous eggs that denote profiles that have not added a photograph and often flags a complete novice or worse a spam account. On Facebook the silhouette makes you suspicious and on LinkedIn, where it really matters, no photo means no business!

When I see the anonymous head and shoulders silhouette on LinkedIn it usually means it is a profile that lacksany attention and however professional the person is,you cannot help but make a judgement about a lack of attention to detail.

Picking the right photograph is important too! On Facebook a recent profile photo has me skydiving somewhere around 12,000 feet over Lake Taupo in New Zealand while on Twitter I’m grinning in a suit looking as freely accessible as Twitter is…

So yes, on LinkedIn you’ll find me again suited and booted and looking every bit the professional senior public relations manager that I am here at Kelso Consulting– and want viewers of my profile to see. LinkedIn website under magnifying glass

You can add or change a photograph by simply going to Profile/Edit Profile off the horizontal menu bar and click on the box where the photograph will appear and follow the simple instructions.

So what does your photograph show? Is it representative of your professional image? It needs to be as those looking at your profile will make a snap decision based upon it. You also need to be recognisable for those getting back in touch or who are checking you out ahead of a networking event or coffee shop meeting.

LinkedIn is full of photographs that really do give the wrong impression; from party pics from a smartphone through to holiday snaps and those people who feel their car should in the shot. Unless you are selling parties, holidays or cars it is hard to think how such a photo will help.

Creating the right image on LinkedIn is important to any professional, but especially management consultants, and here at Kelso Consulting we can Pimp your LinkedIn Profile and we can also Pimp your Team’s LinkedIn Profile.
